Massive Attack – Psyche
Massive Attack always make me feel like I'm in my listening to the soundtrack of my own movie--haunting, intelligent lyrics, with repetitive instruments that get louder, urgent and intense over time.
Chromeo – Don’t Turn The Lights On
Any video that has eyeballs floating around is a-ok in my book!
Gorilla Zoe – Day Dreamer
Really enjoying this song right now. Hate the annoying siren and "previews" at the beginning of the video though.
Grum – Through the Night
This video is absolutely amazing. I bought the song as it's pretty legit as well. Enjoy.
I got a new helmet cam and took it dirtbike riding on Memorial Day weekend
I got a ContourHD 1080p helmet cam. This trip was a dry-run of sorts to see what settings to use and the type of riding that would be interesting on camera. I also got to flex my iMac's muscles by editing the thing.
I'm riding my TM Racing 300. I went with three cousins and an uncle. Some broken parts (not mine!) but no broken bones which is always a good thing. Be sure to watch the video in 720p if it is not, though it should default to that quality.
Some observations:
- The camera is really nice and takes amazing videos for its size
- I don't even notice the camera when wearing it. I used the goggle mount as I didn't feel comfortable velcro-ing something this expensive to my helmet
- I can't quite go all day on one battery and one memory card. Time to get another of both so I don't have to worry about missing something
- Wind noise is horrible when going over 25 mph. Apparently it is a known problem with some less-than-ideal solutions. I'm going to just throw a sock over the camera and be done with it
- I don't normally ride with goggles. It was a lot hotter keeping them on the whole ride
- My i7 iMac still took ~14 minutes to process all the footage before I could edit it in iMovie 09. I guess that's decent as I have 16gb of footage, though the camera shoots in MOV so I'm not sure what it was doing
- I'm glad I got the 2tb hard drive option. At 16gb a day it will fill up quickly
- iMovie 09 is the most frustrating piece of software I have ever used. I'm very surprised Apple scrapped the critically acclaimed older version for this new one
- Automator's "Convert Movie to AppleTV format" or whatever was a lifesaver. Oddly, not every converted movie played on the AppleTV. Very unlike Apple, I expected it to just work
- The camera came with a somewhat decent Java app. I only used it to load camera presets, but it looked competent at least
- The camera isn't recognized as a camera when plugged in. It shows up as a standard FAT32 removable disk. Not a big deal
- It took 3 minutes to save the video in HD for YouTube. It took about one hour to upload it to YouTube with AT&T UVERSE via iMovie's YouTube integration
The XX – Crystalised
I'm loving this band. Check out their entire album...I've heard it described as "love songs for hipsters". This particular song reminds me of summer for some reason.
I friggin’ love music on YouTube
I could spend years on YouTube. YEARS I tell you!
This weekend I was playing guitar and went looking for something new and fun to play. I decided to see if there are any cool acoustic covers on YouTube. Of course, there are about a billion.
Pretty much the first hit was this sweet cover of Gnarls Barkley (great band btw):
Love it, such a unique cover. How about this hotness:
Wow. The woman's voice sort of reminded me of Cat Power:
I love this cover of the Rolling Stones' song Satisfaction. It's hauntingly beautiful. The best part is she covers the verses and drops the chorus, which is the most recognizable bit of the song...GENIUS!
Next on my random YouTube search was this fun cover of Geek in the Pink. I have no clue how they did so cleanly "live":
The girl's hat kind of annoys me, but I'll let it side due to the rendition being so awesome. Then I got to Milow singing Ayo Technology, which is normally a mediocre pop/rap song:
No longer pop/rap OR mediocre. Next up was Pixi Lott. She's famous in the UK. This video and song is a bit over-produced but still enjoyable:
After listening to Pixi I waded through a bunch of junk covers and decided to find this legit Michael Jackson cover that I had heard previously and loved:
I can't help but smile when I see how much fun they are having playing. One of their related videos was this rendition of the Duck Tales theme song (I know, random, right?):
I have that darn song stuck in my head now, fun. Thinking about those amazing covers made me randomly think of the famous Hawaiian dude who did covers on the ukelele (what can I say, I have weird thought patterns):
So amazing. This brought me on a tangent looking at general ukelele covers. This one was pretty decent:
Then I found this cover that absolutely blew my socks off. His voice totally doesn't match his look:
Woah, that sounds amazing for a ukelele. I started thinking about an amazing professional ukelele player I had heard a couple years ago. I had no clue what his name was or if I had even seen the song on YouTube. I hunted around for 30 seconds and BAM, Jake Shimabukuro doing Thriller:
Hunted around a bit more and this was the video I remembered from watching once a few years ago, Jake Shimabukuro doing my favorite Beatles song:
I love teh Interwebs.
