Firefox 3.6.6 was released yesterday, which means the next version is 3.6.7
Some of you may have noticed we released a quick Firefox 3.6.6 yesterday (Saturday here in the states). This was created off the 3.6.4 relbranch and only included one additional fix. To be clear, anything that was previously marked as 1.9.2.6 fixed did NOT go out in 3.6.6. Confusing, I know. I also wanted to say thank you to all those that gave up a day of their weekend and got the release out the door.
Because of the release, we moved the previous 1.9.2.6 blocking and nomination flags to 1.9.2.7, as the next released version of Firefox will be 3.6.7.
Code freeze for 3.6.7 and 3.5.11 was Friday, which means we are now frozen. There are still a bunch of open blockers! PLEASE, please take a look at these lists and see if you are on the hook. Even though we are frozen, we will be approving fixes for blockers (mostly security fixes) on an ad-hoc basis if they come in early enough in the week.
Reminder: Firefox 3.6.6 and 3.5.11 code freeze is TONIGHT @ 11:59 pm Pacific
Just a reminder that code freeze for Firefox 3.6.6 and 3.5.11 is TONIGHT @ 11:59 pm Pacific time.
If you have any bugs in these queries, we need your attention on them ASAP (if you aren't in the critical path for Firefox 4 beta of course):
- Firefox 3.6.6 blocking bugs that do not have an approved patch
- Firefox 3.5.11 blocking bugs that do not have an approved patch
If you don't think one of your bugs should be blocking, please say so in the bug or email me directly.
If you have any bugs in these queries, your patch needs to be landed:
These bugs have the checkin-needed keyword and it would be great for other people to land them:
Ehsan and Reed may beat you to those checkin-needed bugs though!
Are you a Makefile guru? Would you like to make Firefox more secure?
If you are a Makefile guru or just have a bit of spare time to slog through Makefile syntax, take a crack at:
- Bug 567134 - Use ASLR in NSS if it's available
This bug (combined with Bug 559133 - Use ASLR in NSPR if it's available) will go a long way to hardening Firefox!
If we could get a patch landed for Firefox 3.6.6 (code freeze is tonight!) it would be AMAZING.
Firefox 3.6.4 is available, now with less plugin crashes!
Firefox 3.6.4 was released today! This version of Firefox has out-of-process-plugins (OOPP) for Linux and Windows users. Check out the announcement for more info.
Thank you to everyone that worked so hard over the last couple of months to make this release happen. I know OOPP will be a huge win for Firefox users and will make browsing better all around.
Community testers, release engineering, QA, Firefox and platform engineering, and others did amazing work to make this release solid and release it into the hands of our users.
There were a lot of "firsts" for this release and I believe we learned a lot. I'll be giving a talk at the Mozilla Summit summarizing what we learned and how we can apply it to future releases, so if you are interested in the nitty-gritty check it out!
Thanks again to everyone for their hard work!
Heads up, the next Firefox platform version is 1.9.2.6 instead of 1.9.2.5
I just wanted to post a quick note about this to a wider audience as I have been talking about it in Mozilla meetings...
Firefox 3.6.4 (get the release candidate!) has a platform version of 1.9.2.4. The version number 1.9.2.5 is currently being used by Fennec. We'll be taking fixes above and beyond that version, so the next platform version Firefox will use will be named 1.9.2.6. We will keep the version numbers coherent by naming it Firefox 3.6.6 (essentially skipping over 3.6.5).
I will be moving the blocking flags and status flags as appropriate, so if you see activity in bugs don't worry. Also, If you have approvals for 1.9.2.5 they are now for 1.9.2.6 (and should still be landed on mozilla-1.9.2 default).
This is nothing more than a name change, everything still refers to the same Firefox release.
I got a new helmet cam and took it dirtbike riding on Memorial Day weekend
I got a ContourHD 1080p helmet cam. This trip was a dry-run of sorts to see what settings to use and the type of riding that would be interesting on camera. I also got to flex my iMac's muscles by editing the thing.
I'm riding my TM Racing 300. I went with three cousins and an uncle. Some broken parts (not mine!) but no broken bones which is always a good thing. Be sure to watch the video in 720p if it is not, though it should default to that quality.
Some observations:
- The camera is really nice and takes amazing videos for its size
- I don't even notice the camera when wearing it. I used the goggle mount as I didn't feel comfortable velcro-ing something this expensive to my helmet
- I can't quite go all day on one battery and one memory card. Time to get another of both so I don't have to worry about missing something
- Wind noise is horrible when going over 25 mph. Apparently it is a known problem with some less-than-ideal solutions. I'm going to just throw a sock over the camera and be done with it
- I don't normally ride with goggles. It was a lot hotter keeping them on the whole ride
- My i7 iMac still took ~14 minutes to process all the footage before I could edit it in iMovie 09. I guess that's decent as I have 16gb of footage, though the camera shoots in MOV so I'm not sure what it was doing
- I'm glad I got the 2tb hard drive option. At 16gb a day it will fill up quickly
- iMovie 09 is the most frustrating piece of software I have ever used. I'm very surprised Apple scrapped the critically acclaimed older version for this new one
- Automator's "Convert Movie to AppleTV format" or whatever was a lifesaver. Oddly, not every converted movie played on the AppleTV. Very unlike Apple, I expected it to just work
- The camera came with a somewhat decent Java app. I only used it to load camera presets, but it looked competent at least
- The camera isn't recognized as a camera when plugged in. It shows up as a standard FAT32 removable disk. Not a big deal
- It took 3 minutes to save the video in HD for YouTube. It took about one hour to upload it to YouTube with AT&T UVERSE via iMovie's YouTube integration
The XX – Crystalised
I'm loving this band. Check out their entire album...I've heard it described as "love songs for hipsters". This particular song reminds me of summer for some reason.
